Once upon a time there was a kindergarten on the edge of a small town, where a cheerful little girl named Elis went. The little girl had lots of friends at the kindergarten and looked forward to going there every morning. One day the teacher told them the big news. “Dear children, sit down nicely, I have news for you! Bring your masks, we’re going to have a carnival!” the teacher told them cheerfully. The kindergarten children started dancing for joy! They were very excited about the upcoming carnival.
As the days went by, the carnival was getting closer and little Elis was thinking about “what” or “who” she was going to be this year. Last year she was Princess Elsa, but she is a big preschooler now, she has to think of something better and different that no one else will have.
In the morning before kindergarten, little Elis was sitting at the table having breakfast with her mommy. Her mother put some bread and jam on the table and asked Elis: “Do you know what you are going to the carnival for tomorrow? We have to choose a mask, you have to decide,” said her mother, stroking Elis’s red hair. Elis nodded her head, because she still didn’t know. It must be something special… thought the little girl and took a bite of her tasty bread and sipped her tea. Her mother then picked her up for school and quickly dressed for work. Her mommy had a very important job.
She took care of injured animals that needed her help – she was a vet, but as little Elis says, she was the mother of all animals! And that’s when it occurred to Elis! Her hero is her mommy, she will go for her! Yay!
“I’ve got it! I know what mask I’m going to wear to the carnival tomorrow!” said the little girl cheerfully on her way to kindergarten. Of course, she didn’t want to tell her mother, but she promised her that she would make a mask herself. The day at kindergarten passed like water and after arriving home, Elis went straight to her room to make a mask. She prepared her toy baby white coat and the baby first aid kit she had received for Christmas this year. She drew little animals on her white coat. She also wrote her name on a small piece of paper, the best she could so far. But her mother didn’t want to leave anything to chance and bought her daughter a fairy costume just in case.
“We have to go to kindergarten, it’s carnival!” Elis’s mother called her the next morning. Elis quickly got out of bed, put on her white coat, took her medical case in one hand and her favourite stuffed dog in the other hand, and put a leucoplast on its leg – it was her “patient”. And then she followed her mother into the kitchen. “It’s you, Mom! Because you’re the biggest hero to me!” said Elis cheerfully. Mommy couldn’t believe her eyes. Her daughter wouldn’t need a fairy costume after all. She burst into tears of joy and took her daughter in her arms. “I love you so much!” said her mother, kissing her daughter on the cheek.
And how was the carnival at the kindergarten? All the children had beautiful masks, but our Elis won the prize for the most creative mask!
